Rear Extension Case Study Riddells Creek

The Brief

Ben contacted Yarrington Construction because his family had outgrown their home. The existing rendered brick house was ageing, lacked space and no longer worked for how they lived on a daily basis. The goal of the project was clear: to add room without losing character or the property’s connection to surrounding bushland.

Ben already had plans in place for a rear extension featuring cathedral ceilings and strong timber elements. What he needed was a builder who could execute the design properly and manage the complexity that came with it.

The Challenge

This project wasn’t a stock standard extension. The design included large structural timber beams, a raked cathedral ceiling and precise detailing throughout. The extension also needed to sit comfortable alongside the original home while opening up to the backyard and natural surrounds.

Getting it right required careful planning, experienced carpentry and close coordination with other trades.

The Build

Yarrington Construction delivered a rear extension on stumps, completely transforming the way the home feels and functions. Key features of the project included:

Spotted gum external cladding, providing contrast while naturally blending with the bush setting

Cathedral ceilings with exposed beams as a central architectural feature

Large glazed openings to maximise natural light and indoor-outdoor flow

A new kitchen, bamboo flooring throughout and a stone-surround heater

Skylights to further enhance light and warmth within the space

Each element was executed with a focus on build quality, structure and finish.

The Result

After eight months, the Miqueu family had a home that finally matched their needs. What was once dated and cramped became open, functional and full of character. The extension feels intentional, warm and built to last for many years.
