The Brief
Simone and Peter engaged Yarrington to renovate and extend their red brick home in East Bendigo. The aim was to create a space suited to modern living and entertaining, while retaining the character and details that gave the original home its appeal.
The project needed to balance the old and the new carefully, increasing space and light without compromising the integrity of the existing space. With Simone based interstate throughout the build phase, clear communication and trust were essential.
The Challenge
This renovation was about integration, not contrast for the sake of it. The new extension needed to feel considered and deliberate, sitting comfortable alongside the original home rather than appearing tacked on.
Achieving that meant careful material selection, precision detailing and a core focus on continuity. This encompasses a range of features from flooring levels and internal finishes to heritage elements.
The Build
Yarrington Construction delivered a gable-roofed extension that introduces a modern architectural statement while respecting the form and detailing of the original property.
Key elements included in the project were:
- A gable extension clad in Lysaght Dominion in Monument, featuring a full height glazed wall
- Vaulted ceilings to maximise light and create a sense of openness
- New floorboards carefully matched to the existing home for a seamless transition
- Original architraves and window sills accurately recreated to maintain character
- An open-plan living area designed for everyday living and entertaining
- Ongoing, consistent communication with the clients throughout the build process
Each detail was approached with the intent of making the old and new both unified and seamless.
The Result
After nine months, the renovation was complete. The home now offers generous, light-filled living spaces while preserving the warmth and charm of the original brick house. The finished result feels cohesive, functional and built to last. It is a home that effortlessly supports modern living without losing touch of its heritage roots.
